Making Lavender Ice Cream Part I

Random pictures of the lavender ice cream making process

I had to heat the lavender in milk and this is straining the lavender out.

After I left the Lavender in the milk overnight. Then the next day (actually, the day after that). Only the egg yolk is needed. Hehe my perfectly round egg yolk ^^

The jar of honey I needed =]

Honey + egg yolk = below...

Stirring the egg yolk and honey mixture into the lavender milk

10 minutes after heating the mixture. It then turns into a custard-ish mixture.

After a while of heating the mixture on a low heat, it slowly thickens. Then you know that you are, I mean was, a chemistry student when you start thinking about why it thickens as it heats. Then I started to think about the heat being applied to the mixture gives it energy, and somehow something happens to the bonds etc =P

I'll post later today when the ice cream is done... I hope it actually freezes =]

Old sketches

Today I got a lot of my old stuff out and I found that A3 sketchbook. A lot of the stuff made me laugh, my drawings were sooo bad.

The above statement does not apply to the picture below. I found this ichigo and inner hollo ichigo picture that Na drew me =]

This one is even dated. It's all the way from 2007. I think that's year 10 or 11, when we were all quite into Fruits Basket ^^ All of these pictures are rather embarrassing but it's all just part of the memories =]

I think this one is from last year or so. This is the chibi version of Micky in Tri-Angle - I think. It looks a bit weird but I quite like this one ^^

I have two versions of this ^^ This is the paper version  (there's another one in my sketchbook)

I've never finished this one. I couldn't do the head. Also his legs look too fat.

Lavender Ice Cream

I actually had quite a lot of things I wanted to post about yesterday, but I've completely forgotten after that nice long sleep. All I can remember is the lavender ice cream.

Yesterday, we went to a restaurant and towards the end, the dessert menu came. The first thing that caught my eye was the orange sorbet (I love it) - rather than it caught my eye, I was looking for it. The next thing that happened was my eye scrolled upwards towards this purple ice cream. It was really purple. It was like this purple. So I ordered that. And we were wondering what would lavender ice cream taste like. My mum said "It'll taste like lavender". I was like "Yes, but you can't taste lavender. I can smell it, but you can't taste the smell" - so that was a big mystery.

The first reaction when the ice cream arrived was: that's not purple. Well at least it wasn't as purple as we had expected. It was like a grey purple. It was a colour between this colour and this colour. It's more like the first colour but darker... wasn't exactly purple - but ah well. Then when I tasted the ice cream... what can I say: it tastes like lavender. I wish I had taken a photo but I was too distracted by it.

Today I googled 'lavender ice cream recipe' and quite a few comes up. So I guess it's not that uncommon. But it's definitely a recommendation =]

Have a lovely day ^^v~

P.s. I just tried to google image lavender ice cream to give a more appropriate example of the colour, but it turns out that most of the ice cream that came up was a white/creamy ivory colour.

Chocolate

I'm not sure when I will ever find that wire for my phone. Maybe I just should buy the angry octopus and take a picture of it on the camera. I think that will be fun. But I'll just be buying unnecessary stuff again. By the way, the angry octopus is a sticker =]

Today, I went on this chocolate course thing my auntie bought my sister and I for our birthdays. It wasn't anything super special. But I'll give a brief outline anyway. First we tasted some chocolate, then we were told the history of chocolate. We then had to add some chocolate to this bowl of melted chocolate, apparently at thirty three degrees celcius (I can't spell that word), it's the best temperature to set the chocolate so when you eat it there's a nice snap and for the best shine/gloss on the surface. I'm not sure whether it applies to all chocolate, but it applies to Greens and Black chocolate.

Then we made truffles with the dark chocolate. We had to mix in two shots of double cream and four shots of dark chocolate (shots, as in the size of drink shots... if that makes sense at all). Then we had to quickly scoop in into one of those squirty things (the stuff to use to squeeze the cream/icing out when decorating cakes) but we used those plastic disposable ones. Then after that, we let it set in the fridge.

Next, we used the milk chocolate to make anything we want. I made a butterfly which was unfortunately smashed into pieces in the car =[ but when I got home my sister made me rebuild it.

 My reconstructed chocolate butterfly

After that, we decorated the truffles. I didn't actually know what were we supposed to do with the supposedly truffle, so I just dripped it in chocolate and cocoa powder and all sorts. The photos don't look so good, but my camera was out of battery so I had to take the photo asap and didn't have time to experiment the best angle and stuff.
